A Stitch in Time

The program for our January 27, 2014 meeting was quite outstanding.  Guest Marion Grant, a middle school history teacher,  brought us a program entitled "A Stitch In Time"-  which was about the history of quilts.

We learned that quilts were not only utilitarian but  also were often records of family history.  During the time of the Underground Railroad, escaped slaves were given directions by special coded patches on quilts.

To enhance the program, members brought some of their own quilts and shared with us about them. One quilt is made from tee shirts of Marion's son.  Another quilt was made by friends and family for the birth of Colleen's first child.  Dana brought some favorite family-made quilts.
